How much of our water supply is rainwater clean?
I wondered about how much of our water is rainwater for my project I have to do for class.
This depends on what you mean by "our" and how to define the water supply. In a general sense, almost all the world water is supplied by rainwater that becomes streams, rivers, lakes, ice (snow), glaciers, or drains to the oceans. Even groundwater wells that began as the rain that seeped into the ground. (see sycle water). If you mean direct capture of rainfall before it touches the ground, only a very small percentage (less than 1%) of water is captured in this way in the U.S. Globally, more commonly, especially in the arid climates, where up to 50% of the local water supply can be obtained in this way (in countries like India and parts of China).
