Garden Composting

Advice on Garden Compost bins please?

Before buying one, can someone tell me if they work or not, or give advice on the use a success, please?

Yes, they work very well. For best results the site in the soil or grass for worms can enter it. Set on all raw vegetables and fruit kitchen waste, tea bags, coffee grounds, all of your garden waste, old flowers, cuttings, leaves and grass, (this is a green residue) then add torn cardboard and egg cartons and cereal boxesand confetti, (this is a brown residue) and a bucket of water every two weeks (do not do too moist, but do not want to be too dry). To the extent that there is a balance of green, brown, and then wet this will be a good combination to produce decent compost. Have fun.

The weekend gardener and compost

One of my favorite things to do weekend gardener is composting. Composting and the weekend gardener go hand. It is one of the best ways for a weekend gardener to feed her organic garden. Basically, composting converts organic waste in nutrients for your garden and, while composting is a very simple process, there are some basic steps you must take to build a good compost heap. I hope these suggestions will help the weekend gardener to develop a love for the weekend garden like me.

The weekend gardener does not really even need a special container or box containing a compost pile. All you need is the composite material (although some sort of package is recommended only for the fact cleaning and maintenance of rodents, flies and the kinds of creepy crawlers away).

The weekend gardener, like myself can find material for composting in the forms of dried grass, leaves, shrubs, and grass clippings, and left the fruit and vegetables on the table.

Most gardeners weekend including myself keep compost of origin contained in the old trash containers with lids or replacement wooden crates or wire frames. The most important thing is that the compost pile is exposed to air.

Another key to good compost is layered. The compost should have alternating layers of brown and green organic materials. The organic material Green should consist of fruits, vegetables and grass, for example, while the brown organic materials derived from the dried leaves, twigs or wood chips. If the weekend gardener organic matter is too green manure will be too high in nitrogen while too dark organic material in compost become very rich in carbon. Too much nitrogen can cause silt and carbon can make the composting process is moving too slowly.

Maintenance the weekend gardeners compost pile or bin is also important. Do not let the dry cell. It should be regularly checked to see that the humidity is maintained and should be watered if there is insufficient moisture. It should also be regularly mixed and hollowed out to make sure all the compost pile is exposed to sufficient quantities of air. Mixed cell compost about every two weeks should be sufficient. It is also favorable, but not absolutely necessary, if the compost pile is directly in the sun and if the compound is not inside a container of some sort, the best place for it is directly on the floor.

While knowing how and what should go in your compost pile is important, know what not to go in your compost pile is equally important. Chicken, dairy, fish, meat and meat products should never enter a manure and human waste or should not waste animal fats and oils, diseased plants or plants that have been sprayed with herbicides.

Composting for the weekend gardener is a simple and easy process to learn. Also many benefits of composting. Not only will it be the enrichment of the soil when mixed with the compost pile, but it is the removal of material unwanted in a friendly way for the land, thereby contributing to minimize the amount of trash dumped into landfills and help mother earth in the process. Good luck and happy weekend my garden to yours!
